Transformers Prime: Ultra Magnus!

07.31.2014 – Ultra Magnus is military strategist and the leader of the Wreckers in Transformers Prime. He appears in the second episode ("Scattered") of the third season with a subtitle ‘Beast Hunters’ and voiced by Michael Ironside (Top Gun, Starship Troopers, SeaQuest DSV, X-Men: First Class).

It’s fitting for Ironside to take the voice role of Ultra Magnus once famously held by the great Robert Stack in the 1986 animated film. Of course this version of Magnus has more military background done just a soldier quite like his role in SeaQuest DSV taking the leadership role in the absence of Optimus.

Endgame: Windblade # 4!

It all comes down to this last issue of the “Transformers: Windblade” mini-series—well, at least until the coming of the announced second mini-series, “Transformers: Windblade Returns.”

In the meantime, IDW Publishing lucked out on choosing to go with a very unusual approach to the TF franchise and a talented creative team, just the elements needed to push the first post-Arcee fembot star, the sword-wielding Windblade.

After the mysterious power outages and the attempt on her life, Windblade has journeyed into the bowels of Metroplex to discover that Starscream is secretly mining a powerful ore.

After being captured, tortured and escaping, Windblade realizes that Starscream was not behind the assassination attempt. Then, the spacebridge at Metroplex’s heart spins up. Where is it going and who is behind it?

Probably caused by the fact that this is the last issue of the current run, “Windblade” # 4 feels very cramped and condensed. There’s a lot of exposition at the very end, explaining everything that has to be explained.

Vanishing Points: More Than Meets The Eye # 31!

Wow, just when you thought James Roberts couldn’t write a better, more jam-packed issue of the excellent IDW Publishing series “Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye” (“TF: MTMTE”) # 31. Not only does this issue go back to the earliest issues Roberts wrote for IDW and answers many questions that TF fans didn’t expect would be answered so soon or so well.

The issue starts with a flashback two years back, where we see Drift, Riptide and Pipes trolling New Iacon for a new ship, encountering a group of rogbots who communicate by moving their fingers. Drift succeeds in acquiring a ship—which is soon renamed The Lost Light. So that’s where that came from.

Back to the present, the Autobots (Megatron is now officially one of them) are floating in shuttles (and Rodimus’ Rodpod) after the aforementioned Lost Light started to disappear part and part, before vanishing completely. Swerve and Skids kibitz.

But even before they can get around to figuring out what happened, there is a sudden blackout on the Rodpod. When the lights come back on, several of the crew have vanished into thin space air. An upset Tailgate points a pistol at Megatron and soon guns are drawn in an old-fashioned (if space-set) Mexican standoff.

Generations: "Thrilling 30" Trailcutter!

07.14.2014 – You’ve probably have read the Transformers Spotlight featuring Trailcutter and how he adapted that name from being known as Trailbreaker. There hasn't been a modern version of the character until 2010 when Hasbro released a Legend Class figure bearing the name Trailcutter.

Hasbro has been anticipating the 30th anniversary of the TRANSFORMERS brand and they don’t want fans excited. But Trailcutter was one of those characters who finally got their modern Generation One figure that was released along with Bumblebee, Megatron, & Orion Pax.

Enemy Mine: Windblade # 3!

THE good news is that our new female Autobot protagonist Windblade will be returning in another mini-series from IDW Publishing in 2015, a series called—what else—“Windblade Returns.”

That revelation does give away that fact that Windblade will be surviving her current series, “Transformers: Windblade,” but then again, it would have been a real shame if this intriguing new fan-favorite creation met her demise at the end of her first four-issue solo run.

That doesn’t mean writer Mairghread Scott and artist Sarah Stone won’t be putting Windblade in dangerous situations because it can be argued that Windblade is dangerous situations throughout the entirety of “Transformers: Windblade” # 3.

At the end of “Windblade” # 2, Windblade had rallied some Autobot back-up (and Swindle) to dive deep into the bowels of Metroplex’s filtration system in order to stop Strascream from mining a powerful ore. Unfortunately, the motley group of heroes (and Swindle and Waspinator) get pinned down by the Terrorcons. While they put up a pretty good fight, the heroes are captured when Starscream himself shows up to do the dirty work.

TF Spotlight: Trailcutter in "The Reluctant Specialist!"

07.03.2014 – Transformers Spotlight takes a closer look on Trailbreaker err… Trailcutter. The energon guzzling fuel inefficient Autobot from the Generation One. You know that Autobot that Spike and Sparkplug hangout during the second part of ‘More Than Meets The Eye’ story arc in the original series?

Yup that black Toyota Hi-Lux 4x4 with a camper? For those who did not recall this Autobot shame on you. But for those looking forward to hear about the character aside from being just ‘I want to have him in my collection’ Trailcutter is one interesting Autobot aside from having that forcefield generator.

He’s actually one of the original Autobots who went with Optimus Prime on a space mission that ended in a tragedy 4 million years or so. In the comic book universe published by IDW Publishing this Autobot now known as Trailcutter is more than everyone wants to have to bolster their Modern G1 collection.

In Transformers Spotlight you get to see more about Trailcutter than meets this eye. The story so far is connected to the IDW Publishing regular series ‘Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye’ and it continues the adventure of the startship Lost Light who left planet Cyberton in search of the legendary Transformers known as the ‘Knights of Cybertron.’

Li Bingbing & Transformers on Popular Movies!

07.02.2014 – Despite heavy review by the critics Transformers Age of Extinction is set to earn more than $100 Million dollars. Mark Wahlberg leads an international cast and for every Michael Bay film there’s an eye candy with the likes of Megan Fox, Rose Huntington-Whitely and now Nicole Peltz.

But you might have overlooked that there are also secondary actors who makes an impact in the film in their own ‘little way’ that it might not be worth remembering. But certainly have at least made the film look less unappealing than what everyone have seen only the surface.

Vintage TF G1: Dinobot Slag!

07.01.2014 – When you talk about the Dinobots the first name you’ll recall will be Grimlock, since he’s the most popular among the five characters that was created by Ratchet and Wheeljack in the classic animated series. In the comic books their origins are different from what you’ve known.

The second popular Dinobot would probably be Slag, the Triceratops who had the humorous comment upon kicking the doors in the planet of the Quintessons in the 1986 Transformers: The Movie. For some he would pass up as a ‘cute’ Triceratops, but don’t be fooled by this Dinobot’s cuddliness.
