Spotlight Drift Director's Cut: Drifting Through Life!

11.26.2014 – Before you pick up Drift: Empire of the Sun #1 mini-series (now available at your local shops) there’s something you should definitely need to get first. For those who have only come to know Drift in his debut in last summer’s Transformers: Age of Extinction this film is not his first appearance.

Usually in the mainstream a lot of fans who followed the live action films are not familiar with the character having been an original creation first appeared in IDW Publishing’s All Hail Megatron #5 in 2007. The 12 issue maxi-series introduced the sword wielding Autobot by creators Shane McCarthy and Guido Guidi.

Originally Drift would turn out to be an exclusive comic book only character, but there was a following that build-up that IDW went out and gave more back story in what would Transformers Spotlight: Drift a one-shot issue that tells the story how he joined the motley crew of the Wreckers under Kup’s leadership.

In this issue Drift was a mystery character that just came out of nowhere. Well until he revealed himself in front of a well-armed Autobot commandos. His mission was to take down a Cybertronian ship that was commanded by a Decepticon named Turmoil (another in-comic book character exclusive from IDW).

TF Spotlight: Trailcutter in "The Reluctant Specialist!"

07.03.2014 – Transformers Spotlight takes a closer look on Trailbreaker err… Trailcutter. The energon guzzling fuel inefficient Autobot from the Generation One. You know that Autobot that Spike and Sparkplug hangout during the second part of ‘More Than Meets The Eye’ story arc in the original series?

Yup that black Toyota Hi-Lux 4x4 with a camper? For those who did not recall this Autobot shame on you. But for those looking forward to hear about the character aside from being just ‘I want to have him in my collection’ Trailcutter is one interesting Autobot aside from having that forcefield generator.

He’s actually one of the original Autobots who went with Optimus Prime on a space mission that ended in a tragedy 4 million years or so. In the comic book universe published by IDW Publishing this Autobot now known as Trailcutter is more than everyone wants to have to bolster their Modern G1 collection.

In Transformers Spotlight you get to see more about Trailcutter than meets this eye. The story so far is connected to the IDW Publishing regular series ‘Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye’ and it continues the adventure of the startship Lost Light who left planet Cyberton in search of the legendary Transformers known as the ‘Knights of Cybertron.’

TF Spotlight: Orion Pax in "Omega's Conundrum!"

06.30.2014 – For long time Transformers fans everyone know who was Optimus Prime in a previous life, which was first seen in season 2 of the classic series. It also featured the story of the Aerialbots travelling back in time during the Golden Age of planet Cybertron.

There’s not much spotlight on Pre-Prime persona of Orion Pax that was only seen in the TF G1 series. IDW Publishing the current publisher for Transformers comic books had expanded that story through the ‘Transformers Spotlight’ series when they released a one-shot story in 2012.

This one-shot feature about Orion Pax was included in the Deluxe Class release of the same action figure along with Bumblebee, Trailcutter (formerly known as Trailbreaker), and Megatron (Stealth Jet ) celebrating the ‘Thrilling 30’ years of the Transformers Brand with a new cover.

It never was explained what really happened to Orion Pax when this was mentioned in this issue that he’s trying to get accustomed to his new body refit. This story takes place before the events of ‘Transformers: Autocracy’ (check your local comic shop for that graphic novel).
