War For Cybertron: Siege | Barricade

02.29.2020 – Barricade is a member of the Cybertron Security Operations that appears in the rebooted IDW continuity, but prior to that new universe he also appeared in the 2005 continuity, which is heavily based and inspired from the 2007 live-action character with the same name.

Although Barricade shares the same name with the G1 version, which is a member for the Micromaster Race Track Patrol. This ‘Police’ version is entirely a new character now based from the WFC: Siege action figure that is finally released in the Wave 4 assortment of action figures along with Impactor and Mirage!

To some degree fans and collectors might confuse the latest iteration of Barricade as part of the Generation One series, but he is entirely a new character that is both inspired by the G1 Micromaster and takes most of inspiration and elements from the live-action movie version though he never had his own figure until 2019.

You’ll be confused about the character due to that he shares the name with other iteration of Barricade from different universes and toy line. You might stick to the 2019 IDW continuity, where the toy appears in the comic book series as a member of the Cybertron Security Operations prior to the ‘Great War’ and before the Deceptiocons where established as a new faction.

Packaging | Window-Type

The fourth wave of Siege Deluxe Class assortment was not released in the Philippines until the third week of February 2020 to much as everyone’s surprise it caught most collectors off-guard scrambling to get the most sought after figure in this class, which is Autobot Mirage, the fan vote winner and then Autobot Impactor coming second.

This leaves Decepticon Barricade the least favorite among the assortment as the only figure that gets multiple stocks in most retail store in Manila. But turns out he’s one of the slow movers not exactly a shelf warmer than Prowl from the second wave, which is still available in most stores.

Like all Siege figures they are packaged on a window-type box where it features the product art work while the back packaging provides the details of the figure and vehicle mode as well as ‘optional’ Battlemasters, which is sold separately.

Robot Mode | Fourth Redecoed

Barricade is the fourth figure to use the same mold that Prowl, Smokescreen (Hasbro Pulse Selects) Exclusive, and Bluestreak (35th Anniversary Walmart Exclusive) redecoed based on Guido Guidi's Generation 1 Smokescreen-styled iteration of the live-action film character. The figure comes with left & right "HF Siren-Blast Punisher Cannons", and removable light bar.

On the character’s description Barricade is considered a “Praxian,” but not all fans into Transformers would like to get the same mold that featured different characters that is a case-to-case basis. Having the old Prowl from the Universe toyline is enough to get Barricade to represent this mold as sometimes it is redundant to get all four that used the same mold as not all redeco are created equal.

In some form or another mold used might work (Barricade) and some won’t (Prowl) as this figure design suits the later in black Police colors than white. This depends on whose collecting but keeping a variation would be great as the previous iteration of the Praxians would be best to represent the variety of molds that made them to be unique unless having deep pockets to get the same figure in all versions.

Featured Articulation:

  • Tight Joints
  • Swivel Elbows
  • Rotating Waist
  • Limited Head Movement

Transformation | Quick and Easy

If you have the previous figure based on this one it would come easy for a nine-step instruction manual that came with this can be disregarded. You can even transform Barricade without even removing the weapons on his shoulders as the only movement is hiding the head and folding the chest underneath the front part of the car. While the rest folds down and shorten the legs through that process. The doors of course, they close up as the last part when everything is aligned and folded properly.

Vehicle Mode | Cybertronian Police Car

If Prowl is the ‘City-Type’ law enforcement then Barricade is the Highway Patrol or could be a SWAT depends on how you are looking at the different types of Police. The “Police” word is inscribed in Autobot Script on both side of the door and the Decepticon insignia in black can be seen in the front hood of the car.

You can find the ‘battle damage’ paint application on both front part of the car, but the overall appearance looks clean for being deep in the war for his home planet. The design aesthetics of course like the other three that used this mold is a Cybertronian-type of car. The purple emphasis the driver part of the car that is dominated by a flat greyish black that’s slight different from his live-action movie counterpart.

The concept and design is sleek which does look a little bit futuristic. The color scheme screams Decepticon and another reason why this character suits this mold is the combination of purple, black, and white in vehicle mode. The wheels are colore in purple and when you put it in a reflective surface it makes it look even better that it appears to light up but it’s not.

Cybertronian Car Features:

  • Opening Doors
  • Translucent Purple Wheels
  • Battle Damage Paint Only in Front
  • Cybertronian Aesthetics

Mold Comparison | Past & Present

Side-by-Side with Prowl from Transformers Universe (2008) the Deluxe Class scaling how slowly changed as Barricade is a little bit shorter as indicated in the measurement. But with another figure he looks diminutive, but looks modernized to be that alien robot turning into an alien car.

The color scheme that inspired this figure beside the original Barricade from the Movie Series is evident down to the gold paint in the face and red eyes. Barricade in the 2019 IDW Continuity becomes an entirely new character using this mold than seeing it used by the three previous figures. If you’re not into ‘Collect `Em All’ mentality this mold is good for Barricade and keep Prowl from the Universe despite a little bit lanky than beefed up as that character, he’s a jerk anyway.

Overall Barricade may be another retool from a previous character, but this mold really works on this character than the other three who used it. The colors really pops out for being Cybertronian in this aesthetics so if you’re only collecting the mold to represent one character this is a definite Barricade.
