Titans Return | Apeface

07.14.2018 – There are a few interesting Transformers characters from the vintage toyline that was overlooked that had small screen time in the cartoon. Rarely, most are into the characters that had vehicle alternate forms. But when Titans Return was released it was more of nostalgic throwback to what was the best with Headmasters.

Few would remember Decepticons that stand out from its subline and Apeface is one of those interesting toys that came out from the Headmasters that was mostly didn’t get that kind of fandom attention. But this Decepticon gets a second chance as part of the second wave release of the Titan Masters.

Apeface originally was a triple changing Decepticon from the Headmasters toyline, which had a Nebulon partner named Spasma. Changing from robot to a cybertronic jet mode, the third mode is his beast form namely turning into a gorilla.

Of course the original had the best of both worlds being a Headmaster with pleanty of gimmicks. When Titans Return Apeface was introduce all those elements of what made the classic toy interesting was downsized to this new figure that was an inspiration and taking most fans who owned the toy some nostalgia.

Ape Riding Head

The Titan Master version came with a “vehicle” that is based from the triple changing body of the original. But this time it’s just Apeface himself without the Nebulon partner Spasma. The robotic Gorilla body transforms into the jet and becomes its handgun/blaster to any figure with 5mm post.

In jet form the Titan Master is not riding the jet, but laying down on his back flat that seemed to an awkward sight for Apeface. This Titan Master transform to the original Apeface robot head that can be compatible to a Deluxe or larger robot as its head.

This Titan Master stands out certainly from the wave mates that came with the assortment. What was interesting is the gorilla mode where the Titan Master rides on its back where there’s a peg, which is better than just sleeping on jet mode.

Weaponized Gorilla

There are no issues when turning Apeface’s “vehicle” from Gorilla to Jet mode, but what most reviewers mention is when it’s on gun mode even though the handle is 5mm post it does not fit to most figures with the same measurement.

But is still an interesting figure to have even though it was downsized to what you see as a Titan Master. It is way better than having Nightbeat with a drill tank. You got a tiny robotic gorilla ready to take on the Autobots despite the diminutive size.

Overall Apeface is a fun figure to have with any Deluxe or larger Decepticon from this toyline. Despite being downgraded to this modern version of a Headmaster, Apeface still have the elements and inspiration designs from the classic that stands out with the other Titan Master and it’s on clearance now.
